Michael Singh, Managing Director, Road Ready Auto Parts
Trinidad and Tobago’s (T&T’s) automotive industry is undergoing significant transformation in 2025. With increasing vehicle prices, evolving consumer preferences, and a push towards sustainability, the industry is navigating both challenges and opportunities. Road Ready Auto Parts, a leading supplier of imported auto parts, is positioned to support vehicle owners through these changes.
Rising Costs and Parts Shortages
Vehicle prices in T&T have continued to climb, driven by global supply chain issues and increased import taxes. Michael Singh, Managing Director of Road Ready Auto Parts, explains, “The cost of new and used vehicles has risen sharply over the past year. Consumers are holding on to their cars longer, which increases the demand for quality replacement parts.”
A major challenge for the industry is the ongoing foreign exchange constraints. “The availability of US dollars remains tight, making it difficult for importers to source parts at competitive prices,” Singh states. “We’ve had to diversify our supply chains, sourcing parts from regions that accept alternative currencies like Euros and Canadian Dollars.”
The Shift Towards Hybrid and Electric Vehicles
The transition to hybrid and electric vehicles (EVs) is gaining traction in T&T. Singh highlights, “With the gradual reduction of the fuel subsidy and rising gas prices, more customers are looking for fuel-efficient and hybrid options. However, the infrastructure for EVs, such as charging stations, is still in its infancy.”
Despite this, hybrid vehicles are becoming a more attractive option. “By 2026, we expect hybrids to dominate new vehicle sales. Road Ready Auto Parts is expanding its inventory to include essential components for hybrid and electric vehicles,” Singh adds.
Vehicle Maintenance and Safety Concerns
As more people keep their vehicles for extended periods, proper maintenance is critical. “We’ve seen an increase in demand for engine parts, brakes, and suspension components. Car owners are focusing on keeping their vehicles roadworthy rather than upgrading to new models,” Singh explains.
There is also growing concern over uncertified auto parts flooding the market. “Many vehicle owners unknowingly purchase substandard parts that compromise safety. At Road Ready Auto Parts, we ensure that all products meet international safety standards, giving customers peace of mind.”
Looking Ahead
With the industry in transition, Singh remains optimistic: “The automotive sector in T&T is evolving rapidly. Consumers are becoming more informed, and businesses must adapt to meet their needs. At Road Ready Auto Parts, we are committed to providing high-quality, reliable parts to keep vehicles running efficiently in 2025 and beyond.”
